Frequently Asked Questions
Q- Will the Unit work with a Windows XP computer
and can I use it with another, older, version of Windows?
A- Yes, you can use this device on an older version of Windows,
however you must remember that Windows XP is the only version that
fully supports USB 2.0. Older versions of Windows support USB and
will utilize the enclosure, but you will not get the full benefit
of the device.
Q- Will this Drive work with my MAC OS?
A- Yes, this drive will function with OS 9.2 or later. Software
for burning is not included for the MacOS.
Q- When I am using this drive on my USB 1.1 system and try to play
a DVD movie, it skips and seems like there is a problem with my
movie.
A- This is because USB 1.1 does not support the high data thru-put
needed for video streaming, USB 2.0 has a high enough data thru-put
to support video streaming.
Q- Can I remove the DVD Drive and install it in my home PC?
A- Yes, the drive is removable, making it possible to use as a
replacement for another optical drive. Also the USB case can support
other optical drives.
Q- Can I use the included software to create and edit my own DVD
movies?
A- Yes, there is software included for Windows that allows you
to create DVD quality videos that you can then burn to blank DVD
media with the drive.
Q- What is "Double-Layer"?
A- Double-Layer or Dual-Layer is the term given to media that has
2 layers to burn data. A single layer disk holds up to 4.7 GB where
a Dual-Layer disk will hold up to 8.4 GB of information.
Q- Can I use this Drive with Bootable CD or DVD media?
A- Yes, as long as your motherboard supports booting from USB devices
and the option is enabled in BIOS. Most, but not all, new motherboards
support this option.
